The Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis would play host
to this year’s Southern Championships and with that
signify the beginning of another BNBF season. As ever,
the tireless BNBF crew travelled the length and
breadth of the country and arrived in Bognor bright
and early to begin set up of the venue. On this day
the weather was less than compliant but the
anticipation of another BNBF season ahead was more
than enough to brighten any dampened spirits.
Judges for the day were BNBF Pro’s David Kaye and Mark
Claxton, joined by British Middleweight Champion
Lawrence King and Ultra Master’s Champion , Eric Dowey.
Assuming the mantle of Head Judge for the day was BNBF
Chairman, Vicky McCann.
Teens - Sponsored by 24hr Gym
In 1st place was Callum Vine. An impressive teen
competitor with an excellent X shape. Huge arms and
legs with great condition – a top contender for the
British Finals. To be picky, Callum’s tan could have
been a little darker.
In 2nd was Callum Young. Nice balance from Callum
coupled with great presentation. On this occasion,
just a little out massed by the winner.
Taking 3rd was Mark Young. Nice condition from Mark
today with probably the widest lat spread in the
class. Mark just needs a little more time to thicken
his physique.
Also competing – Zachary Morris. A muscular physique
but just not in the required condition to be
competitive today.
Juniors - Sponsored by Creative Fitness Marketing
In 1st place was Billy Simons. Billy was the biggest
competitor in the class with good conditioning and
this combined was enough to take the victory in this
class.
Taking 2nd was Adam Peach. Lovely shape and balance
from Adam with sound conditioning. Adam should work on
his posing for the finals, especially from the rear.
In 3rd was Rory Dobbs. Great chest and arms from Rory
but just not quite hard enough to challenge the top 2.
Also competing – Matt Dopson. A nicely balanced
physique but just not as conditioned as the top 3.
Novice Lightweight - Sponsored by Body Bionic Gym
In 1st place was Gregorio Arroyo Arias. Huge chest,
arms and back from Gregorio and he was delighted to
emerge the victor in this class. His legs were a
little weak in comparison and he should seek to get a
darker tan.
In 2nd was Clint Oliver.
Good condition from Clint with sound presentation. A
nicely balanced physique.
In 3rd was Luke Oswald.
Possibly the best conditioned competitor in the class,
just a little out massed on this occasion.
Also competing: Omid
Gholami, Rob Allen, Tristan Watkins and Ben Sibley.
Novice Heavyweight - Sponsored by Body Bionic Gym
In 1st place was Glenn Branch. Sharp conditioning from
Glenn and a clear winner of the class.
In 2nd was Sandor Nagy. A muscular physique with heavy
development of the upper body. Sandor just lacked a
little condition, especially from the rear.
Taking 3rd was Shaun Nicholls. A good upper body just
lacking size and detail in his legs.
Also competing: James Wright, Dan Marashi, Greg Carey,
Ben Leigh and Paul Carroll.
Master’s Over 40 - Sponsored by Udo’s Choice Oil
In 1st was Howard Pearson. Huge muscularity from
Howard with particularly impressive legs. A little
tighter condition for the finals should see Howard
very competitive.
In 2nd was Chad Bond. Good balance from Chad just
needs to be a little darker with his tan.
Taking 3rd was Dave Cotton. Good tight upper body from
Dave but his legs were lacking in size and detail
somewhat.
Also competing: Marty Boardman, Justin Venes and Felix
McAlinden.
Master’s Over 50 - Sponsored by 24 Hour Gym
In 1st place was Mario Watts. A clear winner of the
class with tremendous torso development and excellent
condition all over. Mario’s tan was also superb.
In 2nd was Richard Hooley. Good shape from Richard
just lacking muscle in comparison to the winner.
Taking 3rd was John Austin. A muscular physique with
plenty of rugged mass. John just needs to work on his
condition for future outings.
Also competing: Jeff Lunn, Roger Thomas.
Guest Star – BNBF Pro David Kaye
Miss Figure - Sponsored by Urban Metro
In 1st was Sarah Beautyman. A classical figure
competitor with good condition and tone. A clear
winner of the class. Sarah’s tan could have been a
little darker.
In 2nd was Michelle Williams. A tall and elegant
competitor with broad shoulders and a tight waist.
Michelle should aim to improve her condition for the
finals.
Taking 3rd was Jackie Field. A muscular figure
competitor with good conditioning. Jackie just needs
to work on her posing for future outings.
Also Competing: Kerry Janeway, Joanne Dudley, Sharon
Magee, Lisa Howard and Claire Fraser.
Lightweight Mr. - Sponsored by Feel Good Fitness
In 1st place was Scott Galton. Great legs as we’ve
come to expect from Scott with an improved upper body
and solid conditioning. Scott’s presentation over the
course of the day was also very good.
In 2nd was George Ferreos. During the day George was
in great condition but a little flat. Greatly improved
by the night show but not quite enough to overturn the
winner.
Taking 3rd was Stephen Bannan. Plenty of mass from
Stephen but just lacking the final element of
condition to place any higher.
Also Competing: Dean Doncaster, Samyar Parsa
Middleweight Mr - Sponsored by EQ Nutrition
In 1st was Martin Petro. Probably the most muscular of
the class with solid conditioning. Great poses from
the side but weaker from the back.
In 2nd was Antonio Marques. Great upper body from
Antonio with superb width from the front and back.
Antonio just needs to bring his legs up to match his
upper half.
Taking 3rd was Chris Redmond. A well balanced physique
with solid conditioning, just lacking a little
muscular fullness.
Also competing: Barry Mulcahy, Robert Poliecha.
Heavyweight Mr - Sponsored by Big 50 Photography
In 1st was Sotonye Dukubo. Superb crisp condition from
Sotonyne coupled with an impressive flaring shape.
Sotonye still needs to improve his posing and tan.
In 2nd was Afolabi Abdul-Salam. Great symmetry and
aesthetics, just needs more condition.
Taking 3rd was Simon Fastnedge. Very muscular with
sound balance. Better condition required to place
higher.
Also competing: Mike Hodgson, Matej Slivon, Nick
Openshaw.
Miss Physique - Sponsored by Body In Design
In 1st was Sarah Meek. A great comeback performance
from Sarah – a flowing and athletic physique with
sound conditioning saw her win the class convincingly.
In 2nd was Frances Heywood. Great condition from
Frances with improved presentation. Frances just
lacked the muscularity of the winner.
Taking 3rd was Eve Cook. Plenty of muscle from Eve
with particularly strong poses from the back. Just
required a little more condition.
Also competing: Debbie Keating and Denisa Lehocka.
Best Presentation Female – Sarah Meek
Best Presentation Male – Sotonye Dukubo
Best Wheels – Sotonye Dukubo
Overall Mr - Sotonye Dukubo
Sotonye’s impressive
combination of mass, shape and rock hard conditioning
proved to be simply too much for the rest of the
competitors today and deservedly took home the title
of BNBF Overall Southern Champion 2011.
The wrap up
With the crowning of a new Southern Champion, the BNBF
team packed up their bags, said their good bye’s and
set off on the long journey home. The next stop will
be Perth for the forthcoming Scottish Championships
and with that the BNBF Tour of 2011 is well on its
way.
