The 2nd qualifier of the 2011 season saw the BNBF team
back in Scotland to host the annual Scottish
Championships. It seems unimaginable that the BNBF
could bring competitors to a finer venue than
Glasgow’s prestigious S.E.C.C, yet it is an undeniable
fact that they did just that. The Perth Concert Hall
was the new venue in question, a grand piece of
architecture, a modern masterpiece and without doubt
the fair city of Perth provided a fitting venue for
these championships.
Judges for the day were BNBF Pro’s David Kaye, Davie
Hannah, Mark Claxton and Dawn Roberts, accompanied by
guest judge Chiper Tennessen and Ultra Masters
champion, Eric Dowey. BNBF Pro Kerry Napier assumed
the mantle of Head Judge for the day’s proceedings.
Teens - Sponsored by Udo’s Choice Oil
In 1st place was Andrew MacLaughlin. Andrew is an
excellent teen competitor, with superb shoulder width
and upper body taper. His condition was commendable
for that of a teen and he posed well throughout the
course of the day. Andrew’s tan could have been a
little darker and he should rectify this for the
finals. Great potential.
In 2nd was Lewis Walker. Lewis has a nice natural
structure with wide shoulders and neat proportions.
Lewis could not quite match the winner for muscular
development or condition on this occasion.
Taking 3rd was Gareth Soutar. Although one of the
smaller competitors on stage, Gareth held his own
today with sharp conditioning and good posing. It’s
just a matter of time now for Gareth to build that
much needed mass.
In 4th was Scott Turnbull. A good amount of muscle
presented by Scott today, but just not in the required
condition to place any higher.
Juniors - Sponsored by The Picture House Restaurant
In 1st place was Gordon Hunter. Easily the sharpest
competitor in class, and when combined with great
symmetry took this class convincingly.
In 2nd was Andrew McGee. Andrew possesses a large
frame with a good amount of muscle. When positioned
next to the winner though was exposed as being a
little soft. Andrew should look to get a darker tan
for his next outing.
Taking 3rd was Dale Kerr. Dale was one of the most
muscular of the class with great symmetry and
proportions. On this occasion Dale was just too soft
to challenge for the top spot.
Also competing: Tony Adgent, Zahaib Ahmed and Calum
McCauley.
Master’s Over 40 - Sponsored by Struan Motors
In 1st place was George Kerr. George was easily the
most conditioned of the class and combined this
condition with improved muscular fullness. An
excellent performance from George who also received
the prize for an over 50’s class win.
In 2nd was Tony Wilson. Tony fared well in the
symmetry comparison with his wide shoulders and back
and tapered upper body. Tony lost out to George today
on condition and this was exposed in the muscularity
round.
Taking 3rd was Alan Bowater. Reasonable muscularity
and balance from Alan, just lacking the required
condition to challenge those above him. Alan’s tan was
also a little pale.
In 4th was Felix McAlinden. On this occasion, Felix
was a good bit down on his usual level of conditioning
and his physique lacked any real muscular fullness.
Felix would do well to take some time out from
competing in order to accumulate the mass required to
improve on his placing.
Novice Lightweight - Sponsored by The Body Academy
In 1st place was Duncan MacDougall. Great shape and
symmetry presented by Duncan combined with solid
conditioning. A clear winner in this class. Duncan
also picked up the best wheels award.
In 2nd was Neil Masson. Nice balance from Neil with no
obvious weaknesses. Neil just needs to present better
conditioning to rival the likes of Duncan.
Taking 3rd Martyn Greene. Arguably the most
conditioned of the class, Martyn was unlucky not to
grab the runner up spot. Great muscle detail and
posing from Martyn.
Also competing: David Hunter, Gordon Moir and Scott
Doull.
Novice Heavyweight - Sponsored by The Body Academy
In 1st was Kenny Mowbray. A convincing win for Kenny
who simply had the best blend of size, shape and
conditioning of this class. Kenny appeared quite tense
on stage and should try and relax a little more for
the finals.
In 2nd Tomasz Kordas. An aesthetic upper body from
Tomasz with sound posing and presentation. Tomasz’s
legs were a good bit weaker in comparison and he
should aim to improve on this for future outings.
In 3rd was Christopher Sweeny. Nice overall balance
from Christopher but just lacking that element of
condition to rival those above him.
Also competing: Peter Buschaus, Fabio Bonnano, Greg
Thompson.
Special Guest Star - BNBF Pro David Kaye
Dave was in great condition for a guest spot, not
quite at the level of his signature shredded condition
but he was full and hard with a flowing x shaped
physique that all bodybuilders desire. Dave wowed the
crowd with a very entertaining routine and strong
posing. It’s fair to say he also sent a few female
hearts racing with his beautiful skin tone and boyish
good looks. Dave is sure to do some damage this year
when he makes his debut as a pro and takes the pro
classes by storm.
Miss Figure - Sponsored by Marcus Eagleton
In 1st was Linda Roche. A clear winner as soon as this
class lined up on stage. Great musculature, tone and
condition and clear potential for the finals.
In 2nd was Julie Lambert. Julie was strong in both
front and side poses with nice symmetry but was
significantly weaker from the rear. Julie should aim
to improve on this, particularly back width for future
outings.
In 3rd was Sharon McConnell. Sharon really needs to be
in better condition to be competitive. She seemed to
lack confidence and her posture was a little weak and
as such needs to be more positive in her presentation.
Also Competing: Claire Bashford, Amy Hanley, Sharon
Magee.
Lightweight Mr - Sponsored by Orchid Cafe
In 1st was Peter MacDougall. Clear improvements from
Peter in terms of muscular development, shape and
fullness. On this occasion, a little down on the rock
hard conditioning he is known for. Nevertheless, a
clear win for Peter.
In 2nd was Ryan Caddow. Possibly the best condition
Ryan has achieved and was clear in the runner up spot,
just lacking in muscularity in comparison to the
winner. Ryan didn’t pose to the best of his ability
and on this occasion his tan was a little pale.
Taking 3rd was Craig Stewart. Craig was in superb
condition for this show and possessed possibly the
most detailed legs in the whole show. Craig’s upper
body has improved a lot from his last outing but he
needs to improve on this further in order to progress.
Also competing: Andrew Williams.
Middleweight Mr - Sponsored by Gracemount Gym
In 1st place was Gordon Greenhorn. Sound overall
balance and musculature from Gordon, a convincing
class win. Gordon should focus on improving on
condition if he is to challenge for top places at the
finals.
In 2nd was Graeme Ross. Graeme was the most
conditioned competitor in the class, but just lacked
the balance and muscle mass of the winner.
Nevertheless, continued improvements from Graeme.
Taking 3rd was Greg McLellan. The winner of the best
presentation award, as always, entertained with his
free posing. Greg still needs to come into the show in
better condition if he is to place any higher.
Heavyweight Mr - Sponsored by The Body Academy
In 1st was Gordon Adams. Gordon was by far the most
conditioned of the class and took the win
convincingly. Huge arms, chest and shoulders saw
Gordon walk away the victor in the heavyweight class.
A great performance.
In 2nd was Rob Darvill. Rob has a very muscular
physique with plenty of mass to spare. On this
occasion his condition, although improved from his
last outing, still needed to be harder to win the
class.
Taking 3rd was Kenny Taylor. Kenny possesses very
strong legs and continues to improve on his condition
with each outing. Kenny still needs to develop more
upper body mass if he is to challenge for top honours
in the heavyweight class.
Also competing: Gordon McEvoy.
Miss Physique - Sponsored by Simply Nails
In 1st place was Julia Rayner. Julia was in good
condition for this show, this evidenced in her upper
body. Julia still needs to develop an extra element of
condition in her lower half if she is to challenge for
top honours at British level. Well done though Julia
on being the sole physique representative at these
championships.
Best Female Presentation - Julia Rayner
Best Male Presentation - Greg McLellan
Best Wheels - Duncan MacDougall
Overall Mr - Gordon Adams
It truly was the battle of the heavyweights for the
title of Overall Mr Scotland, 2011. From the outset it
was clear that the title would be battled out between
heavyweight winner Gordon Adams and heavyweight novice
champion, Kenny Mowbray. After several rounds of
posing and comparisons, the rock hard and muscular
physique of Gordon Adams continued to catch the
judge’s eye and to his surprise emerged victorious.
Gordon Adam – BNBF Mr Scotland, 2011.
Special Thanks
As always a special vote of thanks should be made to
those individuals who work tirelessly and without
