The 2011 NANBF Natural Central Valley Bodybuilding & Figure Championships Contest Recap

It was an unusual gloomy day in Fresno, CA on June 4, 2011, but inside of the Clovis North Performing Art Center were 27 sizzling hot NANBF athletes, ready to shine at the 1st ever Natural Central Valley Bodybuilding and Figure Championships. Nearly 300 spectators were not disappointed by the high caliber show they witnessed.

The inaugural event began with a lively introduction of athletes to Prince’s “Baby I’m a Star”, followed by the National Anthem.

Tina Smith, the Emcee for the evening, opened the show with the only Teen competitor, Daniel Grinyuk , Daniel displayed nicely shaped shoulders and cut abs, the future looks bright for this first time competitor.

Next were the Women Masters Bodybuilding, taking first place was Carla Milton. Carla presented phenomenal muscularity and showed off superb quads and a chiseled back. Second place went to Shelly Silva. Shelly’s popping biceps and smile lit up the stage.

As we continue on with Women’s Grand Masters (50+), we had two determined ladies that showed that age is just a number. Lisa Douglas pulled away with the win; Lisa’s well-defined shoulders and symmetry could not go unnoticed. Second place went to Jody Childs; Jody showcased her wide back and peaked biceps.

The Men’s Masters Bodybuilding class had big and symmetrical Jeff Croker in first place, a shredded and cool Tony Hartman in second. Third place went to Nito Gomez with a superb lat spread, and in 4th place was a well poised and traps to die for; James Gay III.

Men’s Grand Master Bodybuilding (50+) was a very close decision, with the ripped Richard Douglas in first place, and very muscular Thomas Beale in second.

Five lovely ladies graced the stage in the Figure Masters group (Over 35). Marci Colliau placed first with capped shoulders and stunningly shaped quads. Nancy Wiegel placed second sowing incredible leanness. MJ Blocker walked away with third displaying nice symmetry. Traci Bates received forth place with honorable symmetry and diamond calves. Grace Paparign gracefully accepted fifth place as she set the stage on fire with her outstanding stage presence.

The first guest poser of the evening was IFPA Pro Bodybuilder Katy Wayman-White. Katy reminisced her Pro card win 11 years ago through video format, and then brought the house to their feet to Maxwell’s “Pretty Wings”. Katy’s inspirational message is that anyone can achieve in the great sport of bodybuilding.

Women’s Novice Bodybuilding had three excited women who were prepared to show off there hard work. First place went to Lisa Douglas, with a close second to Jody Childs, and third to Shelly Silva.

The Merriam Webster dictionary definition of novice is “a person new to or inexperienced in a field or situation.” By no means did the next group look as if they fit into that category. Seven men took the stage ready to dominate. The final placing’s were recorded as follows. Caleb Inness dominated the class with his infectious smile and well proportioned, thickly muscled physique. Second place went to Fernando Escobar. Fernando displayed a phenomenal upper body and a wide lat spread. Third place went to Luis Stoner; Luis was the most conditioned man on stage with laser sharp quads. Tony Hartman was not ignored with his dynamite symmetry; he captured the fourth place award. Fifth place went to the very muscular, 60-year-young Thomas Beale. James Gay III, displayed traps to die for, and walked away with the sixth place award. Rounding out the pack was our teen Daniel Grinyuk, Daniel will be a force in the up coming years.

There were 6 Novice Figure competitors. This competitive class saw first place Elisha Hudson with nice overall muscularity, etched abs, and shapely quads. Nancy Wiegal’s shredded physique gained her second place. Stephanie Greenhill, displayed capped shoulders and beautiful abs for a close third. Kelly Lombardi’s lean physique awarded her forth place, while the winning smile of Cheri Schaller earned fifth place. Completing the class was miss personality of the stage, Grace Paparigan.

Next up, Moji Oluwa; IFPA Pro, treated the audience to a phenomenal posing routine set to the 1996 Olympic theme song, “Reach” by Gloria Estefan. Following Moji was Brandon Jackson of Fresno, CA with an amazing mime performance to J Moss’s “We Must Praise. “

The Open division started out with the women bodybuilding class. Carla Milton shinned the moment she stepped on stage. Carla’s overall physique and conditioning were unconquerable which deserved the first place award. Second place went to veteran Pamela Stroud with her capped shoulders and awesome trap development. Third was awarded to MJ Blocker who showcased nice symmetry. To complete the pack was Jody Childs with bulging biceps and triceps.

The Men’s Open division was split into two classes. The short class had first place go to the shredded and classic poser, Larry Luna, and second place went to an ultra cut Richard Douglas.

In a competitive tall class, Miguel Vargas walked away with the first place trophy and eventually the overall sword. Miguel showed off his muscular well-conditioned frame. Second place went to Jeff Crocker with some eye catching bicep peaks. Thomas Beale showed off an always-improving physique, for third place, while Nito Gomez showcased a superb upper body for forth place.
The evening ended with the Open Figure class. Marci Colliau prevailed as the class winner as in the master’s class earlier in the evening. Second went to the elegant Elisha Hudson, leaving third to a well-conditioned Clarisa Galando.
