Ogden, Utah - The NGA
Utah Natural Bodybuilding and Figure Championships
showcased some of the best natural athletes in the
mountain state region. It was held to a sellout crowd of
over 1,000 spectators at the historical Perry’s Egyptian
Theater in downtown Ogden, Utah on 10 April 2010.
The 1st through 3rd place
Novice winners received beautiful trophies from Neils
Andersen Trophies.
The show was kicked off
with the colors being presented and posted by the Weber
County Fire Honor Guard and the National anthem played by
Professional Violinist and recording artist Lynnette
Thredgold.
The teens were first to
display their hard earned physiques. Trel Fonnesbeck
showed off his brawn by defeating fellow teens James
Duncan of Bountiful, Utah and Byron Alimbuyao of Hill AFB,
Utah.
The Men’s Masters was
very competitive. David Richens of Vernal, Utah came in
ripped and vascular. Richens conditioning was too much for
the rest of the class! Richens was able to hold off strong
competition from 2nd Place Jeff Chinn and Craig Phelts of
Layton, Utah.
The Men’s Novice Light Division displayed polished
physiques. Masters winner David Richens’ shredded physique
was again too much too handle for his fellow competitors.
Jonathan Jimenez of Ogden, Utah placed 2nd and was closely
followed by Jeff Chinn. The Men’s Novice Middle Division
was a closely fought battle between 3 fantastic athletes
who showed off defined and muscular physiques. When the
dust settled, Wyatt Weber of West Jordon, Utah took home
first place. He was followed by Adam Hainline of Ogden,
Utah and Kelly Moore of Roy, Utah. Both Moore and Hainline
looked as good as I have ever seen them look before, but
Weber was able to hold them off. Men’s Novice Heavy
Division had Taylor Porter of Roy, Utah in a close battle
with Adam Pixton of Roy, Utah and Westin Scanlon of Ogden,
Utah. Porter held off Pixton and Scanlon for the win.
Pixton took 2nd and Scanlon 3rd. The overall Novice
Champion went to David Richens.
Women’s Bodybuilding
featured only one competitor, Vicki Clark of American
Fork, Utah; however she came dialed in and was a crowd
favorite with her feminine muscularity and excellent
posing. Look for her to make her mark in more shows this
year!
After intermission, was
the Ms Figure, which featured 18 of the most beautiful
ladies in Utah! The ladies displayed excellent poise and
stage presence. The Short Class (5’3” and under) began the
Figure round. Ashley Hogenson of Sandy, Utah took 1st
Place. Her beauty and fine symmetry combined to make her
unbeatable this night. She will continue to be a force to
be reckoned with in 2010! Lindy Hicks of Rocks Springs,
Wyoming took a close 2nd displaying fine lines and a
gorgeous physique. 3rd Place went to Chrissy Scavezze of
Sandy, Utah. Chrissy held her own against Ashley and Lindy
showing off beautifully developed legs. Look for all three
to be knocking on the top spot in future competitions in
2010!
The Middle Class (5’4”
and 5’5”) featured athletic physiques and beautiful
symmetry. These ladies came to compete and it showed!
Heather Talbot of Logan, Utah showed why she is one of the
best in the business! She comes with the complete
package….beauty, femininity, and well defined shapely
muscles that you would see at the Pro Levels! It is no
surprise she took first and the Overall Ms Figure Utah
overall title as well. She was followed by Amara Kockler
of Roy, Utah and Jessie Drage of Salt lake City, Utah.
Both Amara and Jessie will no doubt take their share of
titles in the future but on this night came up against
stiff competition from Heather. The Tall Class (5’6” and
over) had Martha Stanger of Washington, Utah taking 1st
Place followed by Chelsea Nickell of Roy, Utah and Justine
Whimpey of Salt lake City, Utah respectively.
Now for the big
guys…..the Open Men! The Open Lightweight showed that the
lightweights can carry a lot of muscle on such a short
frame! Pro Bodybuilder Pete Stokes of Layton, Utah packed
as much muscle on a 162 pound physique that I have seen in
a long time. He was not only thick….but was cut as well.
That is a deadly combo for any bodybuilder to defeat. He
was followed by Chet Thompson of Roy, Utah and Troy
Esmeyer of Sandy, Utah. The Open Middleweight Class was
won by Dustin Biegenwald of Hill AFB, Utah and closely
followed by Jeff Pederson of Ogden, Utah and Nick Olsen of
Sandy, Utah. The Open Heavyweight Class was the best I
have seen ever! I could have flipped a coin and taken any
of the 7 competitors and placed them 1-2-3. This class had
to be re-judged during the night show as the morning show
ended in a tie. Kevin Stoddard of Provo, Utah took a hard
fought 1st Place with thickness and cuts found on most Pro
competitors. Kevin is ready for the Pros as soon as he
chooses to go that route! He was followed by Joe Semanoff
of Sandy, Utah and Aaron Bond of Brigham City, Utah.
The Overall Open Champion
and Mr. Utah 2010 went to Pete Stokes who looked as good
as I have ever seen him look before. Pete has a lot of
good years ahead and if he shows up in the condition he
was here, he will be unbeatable! Not only a great
competitor, but a humble person as well and well respected
by his peers.
