The second annual NANBF
Natural Springfield Missouri Classic brought 15
awesome athletes from all over the country on August 9th,
2008. The competition was held at Missouri State
University’s Plaster Student Union. Springfield has
been a bodybuilding community and we are very pleased
to bring natural bodybuilding to the area again this
second year. Our major sponsor JLA construction and
owner Jennifer Arndt has made it possible to bring
this event to Springfield, THANK YOU!
The first class to
arrive on stage was Novice Figure. This class featured
just one great athlete, Kelli Gutscher. Kelli had
great stage presence and possessed a very lean,
muscular physique.
On next was the Open
Figure class. This class was sure to warm up the crowd
with two tremendous figure girls. Shellie Collins
ended up in first place with her great symmetry.
Finishing in second place was Kelli Gutscher who we
had seen in the earlier class.
Don High was our only
competitor in the Collegiate class. Don has improved
tremendously throughout the summer shows. In this
event Don showed up in his best ever condition.
Submasters Men were up
next. The submasters class consisted of three great
athletes. Finishing in third was Kevin Woods who
possessed a great upper body. In second place was
James Shatzer who was much improved in this
appearance. Frank McAloose ended up winning this class
with his great symmetry.
Master Men consisted of
three outstanding competitors. Rocke Derochey finished
in third place. Rocke has a phenomenal upper body. Don
High finished in second place as stated earlier was in
his best condition. Receiving first place in this
tough class was Morgan Edwards. Morgan has a great
structure with tons of potential.
Masters Men 40 plus is
always an exciting class. This class consisted of 3
competitors all we had seen earlier in the masters
classes. Don High finished in third followed by Morgan
Edwards in second. Winning the class was Frank
McAloose who has outstanding potential.
Open Women’s
Bodybuilding was next. We just had one woman in the
open class and that was Shellie Collins. Shellie
entertained the audience at the evening show with a
great routine. That routine awarded Shellie the best
poser award for the whole show.
The Novice Men’s
Bodybuilding class was next. First up was the short
class. This class featured five amazing athletes.
These athletes were all of championship caliber.
Finishing in fifth was D. J. Edwards who had amazing
symmetry. In fourth place was James Shatzer, followed
very closely in third by Morgan Edwards. In second
place was the awesome Matt Holcomb. Matt possessed
some awesome muscle mass. Frank McAloose finished in
first place in this very, tough class.
The Novice Tall class
featuring 5 athletes took the stage next. Kevin Woods
finished in fifth place followed by Eric Mosely in
fourth. Eric has a ton of potential at such a young
age. In third was Joseph Mendendorp with his
outstanding physique. In second was the mass monster
Brandon Frick. Winning the class was the shredded John
Joseph Kavanaugh II.
The Novice overall was
between Frank McAloose and John Kavanaugh. After a
rigorous comparison John Kavanaugh’s ripped physique
won.
The Open Men now took
the stage. The short class was stacked with 5 quality
competitors all of which we had seen earlier. In fifth
was D.J. Edwards followed by James Shatzer. In third
was Don High with Morgan Edwards in second. Matt
Holcomb won the class with his outstanding muscle
mass.
The open tall class
consisted of 6 competitors. In sixth was Kevin Woods
and in fifth finished Eric Mosely. In fourth place
Rockey Derochey finished with Joseph Medendorp in
third. Finishing in second was Brandon Frick. Once
again winning the tall class was the ultra shredded
John Kavanaugh.
The overall featured
Matt Holcomb and John Kavanaugh. These two athletes
were awesome. In the end John Kavanaugh collected his
second sword of the night by winning the overall.
Our guest poser was
Robert Johnson. Robert amazed the crowd on two
different occasions with his high-energy routine and
great choreography.
